WHO CARES FOR THE CAGED BIRD?

"Beyond the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) skyscrapers and gold, its fast cars and shimmer, its oil barrels and pearls, are its central jails. This is where thousands of migrants, men and women of all stature, continue to languish for “crimes” ranging from bounced checks to drug peddling." My friend Sutirtha Chatterjee and his partner Chandni Sai Ganesh went to the UAE to interview caregivers of these incarcerated migrants, write about it, as well as document the situation through photography. Sutirtha later came to me with what they had produced and asked me to turn it into a book.
